Hiking Flat Lick Falls

Flat Licks Falls is a favorite local hike for so many Kentuckians. The falls are in Jackson County, Kentucky right in the heart of Appalachia. This waterfall is absolutely beautiful and well worth adding this 28ft waterfall to your bucket list for Kentucky waterfalls!

There are two ways to view these waterfalls. You can view them from the paved overlook at the main top or if you would like a closer look, you can take a short hike. We elected for the hiking option. Flat Lick Falls is a 0.6-mile out-and-back loop. It is generally considered an easy route. On average, it takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. We would recommend planning for much longer than that! This is quite a popular swimming hole.

Flat Lick Falls isn’t the only thing in the area. Flat Lick Falls is surrounded by 86 acres of wooded land with 5 miles of hiking to explore! Camping and picnicking are popular options in the area as well. One should additionally consider that Eastern Kentucky is home to many waterfalls! Making a day trip to see multiple waterfalls at once would be well worth it as there are many within close proximity!

We had no difficulty finding this waterfall. This waterfall can be located at Flat Lick Falls Recreational and Scenic Area which we simply typed into our GPS. One in the parking lot, you can take the paved path straight in front of you to begin your hike.
